NBA star LeBron James says his new museum is something ‘we can all be proud of’ in Akron

As the Los Angeles Lakers prepared to face the Cleveland Cavaliers, hundreds of fans flocked to Akron’s House Three Thirty to learn about the legendary career of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

Located in what was once the Tangier restaurant and rebuilt by the Akron kid’s foundation, the LeBron James’ Home Court museum welcomed the public on Saturday morning.

The venue is located about three minutes away from St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, where James gained national attention as a junior. It’s about forty-four minutes away from the Cavaliers’ home arena in downtown Cleveland, where James became inseparably linked with the franchise at the beginning of his twenty-one-season professional career and again upon his return from Miami. The 38-year-old superstar reminisced on the presentation of the museum during a news conference after Saturday night’s 121-115 Lakers victory against the Cavaliers, which could have been one of James’s last homecoming games.

James, who had a career-best performance for the Lakers with 22 points, six rebounds, and six assists in a 10-7 win over the Cavaliers (8-8), expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to show his support for his community and foundation. As a tribute to James’ jersey number, the museum’s general admission tickets cost $23. Those associated with the I Promise School—including children, parents, teachers, and other family members—will be employed through House Three Thirty’s employment training program, which will get 100% of the sales proceeds. The Akron Public Schools and The LeBron James Family Foundation have joined forces to run the school.

The fact that James has been able to use his life’s experiences to give back to his hometown and turn it into a destination that people are happy to call home is “pretty cool,” he remarked. Actually, I am. That my foundation has accomplished so much is something of which I am justifiably proud. There is much for my hometown to be proud of, and the museum is certainly one of them.
