Some fans have accused Shakira of using too many creative elements from Taylor Swift’s ‘shocking’ Eras Tour for her upcoming Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour.
The comments come amid news that Shakira’s upcoming world tour has broken one of Taylor Swift’s records as the Colombian singer became the first female artist to sell out five consecutive shows at the Estadio GNP Seguros in Mexico City, according to Marca.
Taylor Swift previously held the record with four sold-out shows at the stadium during her Eras Tour .
The Cruel Summer singer’s fan community posted evidence of Shakira “imitating” her idol, including Shakira’s team’s marketing campaigns that are very similar to Taylor Swift’s, and similar products and stage layouts and sets.
One person said: “It’s obvious the inspiration was taken from Taylor Swift’s most famous tour of all time. But if this goes viral, they’ll struggle to prove it’s not a rip-off of someone else’s work.” Another joked: “Shakira’s team might as well call this Taylor’s Eras Tour .”
Shakira’s rehearsal video with her dancers for this tour was also criticized by the audience for “copying” Taylor Swift’s choreography.
Viewers commented: “She also jumped into the water like Taylor, it was so funny. I think Shakira and her team studied the Eras Tour to create something similar.”
Others added: “If Taylor copies someone then obviously they will never stop talking bad about it and putting her down”…
Meanwhile, some other fans of Taylor Swift sympathized with the owner of the hit Hips Don’t Lie : “It’s okay because we love Shakira”; “Shakira is inheriting this legacy with Latin identity”; “Shakira had many records before Taylor was famous”.
Shakira ‘s world tour will kick off in 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 11, followed by stops in Peru, the singer’s native Colombia, Chile, Argentina and Mexico.
